Description from the seller
Vintage illuminated sign “Edizioni Hoepli” – a bookstore advertising sign, original period piece
Illuminated sign bearing the inscription “edizioni HOEPLI”, traceable to the historic activity of the Hoepli publishing house. An object with strong visual impact, typical of library and commercial furnishings of the second half of the 20th century, today increasingly sought as a piece of modern antiques related to the history of publishing.
Rectangular structure with front panel in backlit plexiglass (PMMA) in a deep green shade, with black graphics: “edizioni” in italics and “HOEPLI” in uppercase. Uniform and scenographic lighting, suitable for display in commercial environments as well as for decorative use.
Technical features:
- Front panel in backlit plexiglass
- Original lighting with shaped fluorescent tubes
- Presence of an era electromagnetic ballast (non-modified system)
- Original wiring
- Working electrical supply
Conditions:
Good general condition. Signs of time and use consistent with age (slight traces on the internal structure and on the wiring). Lighting functioning. Item intact.
Note: original-era electrical system; a technical check for continuous use is recommended.
Historical note
Ulrico Hoepli, founded in Milan in 1870, is one of the most important Italian publishing houses, renowned for technical, scientific and popular manuals. Illuminated signs like this were used to identify bookstores and points of sale linked to the brand.
In light of recent transformations in the book market and the difficulties that have affected even historic entities in the sector, objects of this type today acquire additional testimonial value, representing a concrete memory of the Italian publishing tradition and the 20th-century bookselling trade.
