Description from the seller
This lot features a german beaker also called a friendship cup or ranftbecher wich is usually a glass with a faceted or not, reinforced foot holding a conical shape cup. The beaker is handpainted in the style of Anton Kothgasser (1769–1851) a famous and well known viennese glass painter. Its paintings are realised in a very delicate and refined style depicting a european robin bird standing on a leaved branch. Caligraphic lettering is also present on the back side of the glass, writing birds name in latin "Erithacus rubecula" and "Rotkehlchen" wich is its german popular name. Near the branch, in the lower left side corner a small signature is visible (see last photo). Most likely produced in the first half of 20th century this beaker showcase elaborate craftmanship and impressive details, its gold gilded rim is handpainted in stylised floral motifs. Under the base, like majority of the ranftbecher cups are designed, a star shape was carved by glass cutting technique with its interior coloured in an amber tonne. Condition of the glass is excellent, without damages, only some normal use signs under its foot (ranft).
