Description from the seller
Ancient wax seal stamp with heraldic matrix, turned wooden handle – 18th / early 19th century
An old wax seal composed of an elegant turned wooden handle, with a warm honey-brown patina, displaying a baluster profile typical of productions from the end of the modern era.
The base is mounted on a metal ferrule and ends with an oval metal matrix engraved.
The matrix bears a heraldic shield surrounded by decorative scrollwork.
The design seems organized around a central shield framed by volutes, possibly topped (but not legible with certainty) by an upper element such as a crown or stylized helm.
A utilitarian object intended for administrative or private use (sealed correspondence), characteristic of aristocratic or bourgeois practices.
Period: 18th – early 19th century
Materials: turned wood, metal (matrix)
Condition: signs of wear, matrix encrusted with wax residues, partial legibility
Matrix dimensions: 2 cm x 1.5 cm
Provenance: private collection.
The photographs are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment
The object will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
