All automatic watches require winding at first use; the crown alone does not provide enough power reserve.

RULE FOR ALL DATEWATCHES
To avoid potential damage to the movement, please do not set the date with the crown when the time is between 21:00 and 03:00. It is advisable to set the date when the time is between 03:05 and 20:55. (Some models have a screw-down crown; for settings, gently unscrew the crown counterclockwise. Do not forget to securely screw the crown back after making the desired adjustments.)
