Description from the seller
An Icon of Elegance and History: Inkwell in Silverplate and Portoro Marble.
This superb antique inkwell, a work of craftsmanship from the Early 20th Century, embodies the opulence and sophisticated style typical of the Piedmontese Savoyard bourgeoisie of that golden era.
The inkwell is distinguished by a sumptuous base of precious Portoro marble, quarried in the evocative region around La Spezia. Characterized by a rich, deep texture, the marble offers black and brown hues, enriched by golden veining that draws the eye. This solid and stable base is elegantly wrapped by a silvered mounting, enriched with floral details and intricate grooves, reflecting the mastery of the silversmiths of the era.
The inkwell is complete with two glass nib holders or bottles, designed to contain inks of different colors. Each bottle is topped by a silverplate cap, which adds an additional touch of luxury and refinement to the whole. The two bottles have been positioned symmetrically on the marble base, creating a harmonious visual balance.
A feature that makes this object even more fascinating is the presence of a small vent hole in the lid of one of the nibs, a functional and historically accurate detail.
For design integrity, the inkwell bears no obvious engravings or marks, but this does not diminish its historical and artistic value. On the contrary, its simplicity and formal purity accentuate its timeless elegance.
This inkwell, in excellent condition for its age, would fit perfectly in any vintage office or desk, bringing with it a piece of history and a touch of luxury. With its timeless design and extraordinary craftsmanship, this inkwell represents a valuable investment for any collector of antique items and a furniture piece of great value and charm.
