Description from the seller
Two editions of works by the Belgian visual artist Frans Masereel (1889-1972) are offered:
1 Apparitions – Saarbrücken: Saar-Verlag, [1947] – [44] pp., portfolio
20 reproductions of woodcuts mounted on cardboard with French and German titles, complete, with a front material (4 pp.) containing the title page, colophon and table of contents.
According to the colophon 200 copies of the edition are numbered and signed by the artist; this copy is numbered (197) but not signed.
Condition: some of the plates are loose, but otherwise in excellent condition; the folder is reinforced along the spine and edges with tape – see the photos.
2 Danse Macabre – Bern: Herbert Lang, 1946 – [56] pp., stapled
Second edition, the first appeared in 1946.
Condition: the interior is in excellent condition with slight corner dents, the spine is damaged, with a missing piece on the front cover and a dog‑eared corner on the back cover – see the photos.
