A beautiful vintage Vallauris ceramic vase.
This sturdy vase has a wonderful Brutalist look with a thick green Fat Lava glaze over an orange and brown glazed base.
Origin: Vallauris, France, circa 1960/1970
Dimensions:
Height: 25 cm
Diameter: 19 cm
Weight: approx 1670 grams
The village of Vallauris lies near Cannes on the Mediterranean Sea.
In Vallauris pottery has been made since Gallo-Roman times.
The arrival of Picasso in the 1950s elevated Vallauris to the ceramic capital of France, attracting many artists who wanted to learn the art of firing. Picasso himself, as well as Chagall and Miró, created a wide range of models that ushered in a new era for ceramics.
In good condition, no damage.
