Signed first edition of the book M'as tu vue by Sophie Calle, published by Editions Xavier Barral / Centre Pompidou in 2003, hardcover, 444 pages, 24 x 17 cm.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed edition on the title page by Sophie Calle (born 1953), Unique and unavailable in a signed copy. It is the original edition published by Editions Xavier Barral and the Centre Georges Pompidou in the first printing of 2003. Remarkable, artist-imbued with numerous leaves of various formats that are inserted outside the book and integrated into the same binding. 444 pages with numerous photographs and text. Very beautiful publisher’s binding illustrated on the cover and the dust jacket. In excellent condition, practically like new.
This complete retrospective (at the time) of the artist Sophie Calle was published for the occasion of the exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris from November 2003 to March 2004 and it enjoyed considerable success since the catalogue had to be reprinted almost immediately in 2004. This book celebrates the breadth and intelligence of her iconoclastic work and also leads to a deeper understanding of her unique artistic vision. Calle’s conceptual art work embraces many media: photography, narration, film and memory, to name a few. Often controversial, Calle’s projects explore questions of voyeurism, intimacy and identity as she secretly investigates, reconstructs and documents the lives of strangers — inviting them to sleep in her bed, following them in a hotel or tracing them through the city. Assuming multiple roles — detective, documentarian, behavior specialist and chronicler — Sophie Calle challenges the boundary between life and art. The book presents Calle’s best-known works, including The Blind, No Sex Last Night, The Hotel, The Address Book, A Woman Disappears, etc., as well as less-known and earlier projects that largely escaped public attention. This monumental collection of photographs, diary excerpts and Calle’s video images also includes three critical essays, an interview with the artist and a compelling dialogue with her fellow British artist Damien Hirst who dominates the art scene.
Book from my personal collection in excellent condition, kept with the greatest care. Shipped in very protected packaging with guaranteed tracked postal service. For multiple purchases, grouped shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
