Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist both at home and abroad. His works are represented in various renowned art collections, and he was the first Dutch artist elected as Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels’ artworks lies always a story; his works are little anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISME: he imagines himself preferring the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, imaginative perspective on everyday things and is often surprised as a result.
Briels depicts the experiences he gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music provides an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, with a lightly erotic sauce over the musical tones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels’ artworks are never bound to a specific time and express universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer’s imagination by showing different images than those we are assumed to see. Since we are by nature taught to rely on stereotypes rather than imaginative interpretations of surrounding things and events, the viewer is sure to be taken by surprise.
Dimensions with frame: 55 x 50 cm
Dimensions without frame: 28 x 23 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
