Belutsch - Rug - 140 cm - 86 cm

The Belutschen are a nomadic ethnic group from the Belutschistan region, a district bordering Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Belutsch Rugs can be made on a foundation of cotton or wool, and goat or horsehair is often used in the weft. Traditionally they were made from sheep or goat wool from the tribes' own herds, while modern Belutsch carpets usually have a cotton warp.

The carpets are generally smaller due to their tribal origin and are woven on horizontal looms with vibrant, geometric patterns. Curvilinear Tree-of-Life patterns as well as prayer rugs with a prayer niche are typical and sought-after exemplars. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds often contrast with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Belutsch carpets are relatively thin, but tightly woven, which makes them soft and flexible.
