Description from the seller

The Baloch are a nomadic ethnic group from the region of Balochistan, a district bordering Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Baloch carpets can be made on a foundation of cotton or wool, and goat hair or horsehair is often used in the weft. Traditionally they were made from sheep- or goat-wool from the tribes' own herds, while modern Baloch carpets usually have a cotton warp.

The carpets are generally smaller due to their tribal origin and are woven on horizontal looms with vivid, geometric patterns. Sinuous Tree of Life motifs as well as prayer rugs with a prayer niche are typical and sought-after specimens. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds often contrast with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baloch carpets are relatively thin, but tightly woven, which makes them soft and flexible.

Condition: generally in good condition, full pile, 30-40 years old,

With certificates of authenticity
