Born in 1976, Uchay combines traditional techniques with experimental methods, often employing mixed media to create layered and texturally rich works. He uses unconventional materials such as ropes, charcoal and threads in his art, symbols of connection, resilience and cultural stories.
His work explores themes such as identity, social issues, urbanization and the environment, often inspired by his experiences and observations of life in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Uchay’s style bridges abstract and figurative art, making his pieces both provocative and visually impressive.
His contributions to the art world have earned him international recognition, with exhibitions in galleries and art fairs in Africa, Europe and beyond. Uchay Joel Chima continues to influence the global art scene by pushing the boundaries of traditional artistic media.
