Two-piece salad serving set in silver and light wood, dating from the late 19th century in France, presented in its original black-covered box with red velvet lining.
Description from the seller
Ancient silver-plated salad cutlery set Minerve 1 (950/1000) and noble wood – Original box – Late 19th century
Elegant old salad cutlery set, consisting of a spoon and a fork, presented in its original box.
The handles are in high-grade solid silver (950/1000), certified by the prestigious Minerve 1 hallmark, and richly ornated with floral motifs and finely chased oval cartouches. The decoration is typical of French goldsmithing from the late 19th – early 20th century, offering a bold presence and high-quality craftsmanship.
The functional parts are made of light noble wood, most likely boxwood, a traditional material used for salad cutlery to prevent food oxidation and for its great resistance. The wood is finely polished, with a warm, homogeneous patina.
The set is preserved in its original black-lacquered wooden box, lined with red velvet inside, giving an elegant and authentic presentation.
Decorative and functional piece, ideal for a collector of antique silverware or for a refined table.
Period: late 19th – early 20th century
Materials:
• Handles: solid silver 950/1000 (Minerve 1)
• Spoon and fork parts: noble wood (probably boxwood)
• Box: lacquered wood, velvet interior
Condition:
Very good overall condition given its age.
The silver shows a natural patina.
The wood is well preserved, with no visible cracks or losses.
Box with light signs of use consistent with its age.
