Description from the seller
“El Dialogo” is a work by Clemens Briels. The title El Dialogo literally means “The Dialogue” and refers to the central theme of the work: the encounter and interaction between forms, colors and meanings.
The artwork is part of Briels’ broader oeuvre, in which he applies his distinctive Antipodism style. Within this imaginative and expressive visual language, contrasts and visual dialogues play an important role. Through the interplay of bold color contrasts, dynamic compositions, and playful figurative elements, a lively whole emerges that invites the viewer to interpretation.
As is often the case in his oeuvre, he combines figurative elements with almost theatrical intensity. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the relationship between life, time and decay, but does so with the energy and visual power that are characteristic of Briels’ art.
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist at home and abroad. His artworks are included in various renowned art collections and he was chosen as the first Dutch artist to be named Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels’ artworks lies always a story: small anecdotes from a contrasting society. In his own style, Antipodism, he prefers to portray the opposite of the stereotype. Thus he confronts the viewer with a fanciful view of the everyday.
Inspired by his travels to the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America, and by Latin American music such as son, mambo and merengue, Briels creates colorful, dynamic works. His art is timeless and cosmopolitan: color is his means, the story his message.
Dimensions of the work without frame: 55 x 72 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house picture-framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. We also make use of restorers from the professional association: “Restauratoren Nederland.” If you would like to use this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
