An antique Biedermeier Willkomm glass from Bohemia, circa 1820–1850, featuring polychrome enamel decoration of the Agnus Dei with a surrounding inscription, 13.4 cm high and 14.4 cm in diameter, hand-made with a pontil-marked foot in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Biedermeier Willkomm glass with enamel painting – Bohemia around 1830, Agnus Dei & Inscription
Rare and highly decorative Willkomm- or foot-beaker glass from the Biedermeier period, made in a Bohemian glassworks around 1820–1850.
The finely crafted glass shows a high-quality polychrome enamel painting with a religious motif: it depicts the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) with a cross banner, a classic Christian symbol. This is complemented by floral ornamentation as well as a surrounding, finely executed inscription in period-typical script.
The inscription refers to the year “1704,” which is to be understood as a historical reference or motto and does not denote the manufacture date.
The conically shaped beaker rests on a slightly flared foot with a characteristic pontil mark, which underscores the handmade production. The enamel painting in white, red, blue and green is typical for glass production in the Bohemian region in the early 19th century.
Special features:
• Original Biedermeier glass (c. 1820–1850)
• Fine hand-painted enamel decoration
• Religious motif “Agnus Dei” (Lamb of God)
• Circulating inscription with historical reference
• Handcrafted (visible pontil mark on the bottom)
• Rare in this quality and condition
On the condition: The glass is intact and in a “collectible” condition (see photos)!
