The VT 859 series belongs to a group of diesel railcars from VT 851 through VT 871 and were built by the wagon factory Wismar.
The railcars operated in the vicinity of Stuttgart and Munich, later they were also deployed in Schwerin (Mecklenburg) and remained in service with the Reichsbahn until 1940. During World War II they were used for war purposes. After World War II the railcar VT 859 ended up with the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), which classified it as construction series VT 65 and was assigned the works number VT 65 903. In 1957 the railcar was withdrawn due to a crack in the bogie.
