Ballot radiator badge, circular with 8 cm diameter, dating from 1925, original/officiel with cloisonné enamel and very good condition.
Description from the seller
Original radiator badge — Ballot Establishments Paris — Cloisonné enamel — 1920s/1930s — Rare French automobilia
Exceptional piece of French automobilia, this radiator badge comes from one of the most prestigious and little-known car brands of the interwar period. Établissements Ballot, founded in 1905 on Boulevard Brune in Paris, were, before World War I, a renowned maker of marine and industrial engines — hence the anchor at the heart of the emblem — before turning to competition automobile construction from 1919, notably featuring in the Indianapolis 500 with three consecutive pole positions.
Physical description
* Shape: Circular, approximate diameter 7–8 cm
* Face: Tricolor cloisonné enamel — white background, burgundy/red ring, blue anchor, chrome-plated EB initials (Établissements Ballot), two lateral stars
* Inscriptions: “BALLOT” at the top — “PARIS” at the bottom
* Back: Silvered metal embossed with the same motif, original threaded stud for mounting on a grille
* Materials: Molded metal, cloisonné enamel, chrome finish
* Condition: Very good condition with some light wear consistent with the piece’s age, original patina preserved — no restoration
Historical context & collector interest
Ballot disappeared in 1931, absorbed by Hispano-Suiza, which makes every piece from this brand particularly rare on the market. This badge is representative of the great era of French automotive industry during the Années Folles, a period when manufacturers rivaled each other in elegance down to the smallest details of their vehicles. The anchor symbolizing the company’s industrial origins, and the blue-white-red colors make it a piece that is both historically meaningful and visually striking.
Ideal for:
- A collection of French vintage automobilia
- Interior decoration in the Art Deco / chic garage spirit
- A French pre-war automotive history enthusiast
