Description from the seller

Victoriaan cylinder desk Napoleon III, ca. 1870-1880, mahogany with rootwood veneer

This elegant cylinder desk is an authentic example of the Napoleon III style, as it flourished in the second half of the 19th century in France and the Low Countries.
The desk is made of solid oak with walnut veneer and a roll-down tambour covered with beautiful burl wood veneer. The ebony trim detailing is characteristic of the rich finish from this period.
The interior offers an extensive arrangement with multiple small drawers and open compartments, centered around a central secret compartment with original multi-color marquetry inlay and lock. The writing surface is lined with green cloth. The base cabinet includes a locked drawer with carved acanthus leaf motif. The whole rests on gracefully turned legs connected by an X-shaped stretcher.
Materials: oak, mahogany, burl wood veneer, ebony accents, green cloth, brass fittings
