Description from the seller

Large Vintage Palissy Ware Majolica Wall Plate with Spider Crab Relief
In Mint Condition – No Reserve - 1950s - Portugal

A striking and highly decorative vintage Palissy Ware majolica wall plate featuring a central raised spider crab on a richly textured sandy seabed, surrounded by sculptural seaweed, shells, and marine details such as mussels and clams. The vibrant deep red crab contrasts beautifully with the green, amber, and earthy glazed tones, creating a dramatic and highly collectible display piece.

This naturalistic ceramic style is known as Palissy Ware, named after the celebrated 16th-century French potter Bernard Palissy, who became famous for his richly detailed nature-inspired ceramics. This tradition remained especially popular in the 19th and 20th centuries, admired for its sculptural realism and vivid majolica glazes.

The plate is wall-mounted with hanging cord on the reverse and is ready for immediate display. A true eye-catcher for collectors of majolica, marine-themed art, and decorative European ceramics.
Condition: in mint condition, with bright colors and excellent glaze. No cracks, chips, or repairs observed.

Dimensions: 5 x 24 x 24 cm (height × width × depth)
Weight: approximately 1,25 kg

A superb collector’s object with strong decorative presence and excellent craftsmanship.
