It represents an example of haute horlogerie with complex complications such as the perpetual calendar, which indicates the date, day of the week, and month. Such watches were a status symbol for the bourgeoisie and the aristocracy of the era and attest to the technological advancement in the measurement of time. I can't say whether the mechanism is functioning because I’m not an expert.
