Description from the seller
Antique commemorative plate – International Eucharistic Congress Amsterdam 1924 – Mosa Maastricht
Beautiful and decorative antique commemorative plate for the International Eucharistic Congress held in Amsterdam from July 22 to 27, 1924. This is the only time this international Catholic event was held in the Netherlands and represents a particularly historic moment from the ‘Rich Roman Life’.
The plate is made of porcelain and bears on the back the mark Mosa Maastricht, a renowned Dutch producer of ceramics and dinnerware. The design is richly decorated in deep blue tones, gold accents, and white, with a strong symbolic depiction.
Centered on the plate is a chalice with host, placed on a globe as a reference to the international character of the Eucharist. On the host are the letters IHS, a Christogram standing for In Hoc Signo (“in this sign”). This reference goes back to Constantine the Great’s conversion and the famous motto In hoc signo vinces.
On the left is the papal emblem of Pope Pius XI (pontificate 1922–1939), and on the right the city coat of arms of Amsterdam. The border text clearly states the occasion and date: Internat. Eucharistic Congress – 22–27 July – Amsterdam.
Specifications:
* Material: porcelain
* Manufacturer: Mosa Maastricht (marked on the back)
* Dimensions: approx. 23 cm diameter, 3.5 cm high
* Dating: 1924
* Condition: in nice condition, light wear appropriate to age
A special collector’s item for lovers of religious heritage, Dutch history, or Mosa ceramics. Also very suitable as a decorative wall plate.
