Description from the seller

This is a small portable heating vessel of the handwarmer type (Chinese 手炉 shoulu), which could also function as a censer, made of brass or a copper alloy and stylistically datable to the Qing dynasty (18th–19th century). The body takes the form of a flattened, rectangular box with rounded corners, fitted with a hinged, openwork lid and a movable bail handle for carrying. Overall, the object represents a typical late imperial Chinese utilitarian item used by elites and urban households, combining practical function with decorative refinement, and reflecting the cultural importance of thermal comfort and olfactory aesthetics in traditional interiors.
