Description from the seller
It is a 19th-century candelabrum that preserves all the theatricality of late Baroque, but with the peculiarity of having been later adapted to function as a lamp, which adds an extra layer of history and use. The piece originates from a broad, ornate base, where the bronze appears worked in deep reliefs: scrolls, leaves, small volutes that intertwine with that exuberance so typical of the style. Each section of the shaft is shaped as if it were a small sculpture in itself, alternating turned sections with decorated zones, creating an ascending visual rhythm that guides the gaze toward the upper part.
The bronze, with its warm patina and slightly darkened by time, enhances the reliefs and provides a sense of weight and nobility. It is evident that this is an authentic 19th-century piece: the density of the metal, the precision of the details, and the harmony of proportions speak of high-level artisanal craftsmanship.
At some point in the 20th century, the electrical mechanism was added, respecting the original structure. The socket and wiring, more recent, allow its use as a lamp, although the system already shows the passage of time and would benefit from a review or rewiring to ensure safety and optimal operation. Even so, the intervention does not diminish the candelabrum’s charm; on the contrary, it makes it a hybrid object, where modern function coexists with historic aesthetics.
Overall, it is an imposing piece, rich in details and with a decorative presence that transforms any space, uniting Baroque solemnity with the practical life it has acquired over its more than a hundred years.
