Karabagh-Azeri rug from Azerbaijan, ca. 1940–1950, hand-knotted in 100% wool on wool, 153 × 230 cm.
Description from the seller
We present an authentic Azeri Karabakh rug, originating from Azerbaijan, entirely handmade of wool on wool, circa 1940–1950.
This piece belongs to the Caucasian tribal tradition of the Southern Caucasus, recognized for its bold geometric compositions, stepped medallions, and multiple distinctive borders. The double-medallion design on a red field and the green geometric border are classic features of historical Kazak–Karabakh rugs.
The rug features a robust, dense construction, with well-made hand-spun wool and a symmetric Caucasian knot. The colors, softly patinated by time, retain a strong decorative presence and tribal authenticity.
It is in very good condition for its age, with uniform wear appropriate to use and antiquity, no structural losses or significant damage. Original edges and structure.
A decorative and collectible piece, ideal for characterful interiors or authentic Caucasian rug collections.
