Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A circa 1900 antique candelabrum in copper with technical zinc, model “Cherub on Sphere”, from France, in good used condition with minor wear, dimensions 32 cm high, 15 cm wide and 15 cm deep, in the Napoleón III antique style.
Description from the seller
It is a 19th-century candlestick that concentrates all the ornamental theater of the era, crowned by a cherub figure that lends an almost allegorical air. The base is solid, stepped, with moldings and striations that rise like a small architectural pedestal. Above it sits the orb, worked with reliefs and decorative motifs, which serves as a symbolic and visual support for the figure.
The cherub, seated naturally on the sphere, is modeled with a very fine level of detail: wings open with clearly marked feathers, a sweet gesture, robes that fall in soft folds. That mix of innocence and dynamism is typical of 19th-century decorative sculpture, heir to the Baroque but reinterpreted with a more romantic touch.
The upper part, where the candlestick holder or ornamental finial would originally rise, is missing, leaving visible the anchoring point. Even so, the piece maintains its aesthetic balance: the bronze, with its warm patina, enhances the volumes and gives depth to each relief.
All told, it is a candlestick that blends symbolism, sculptural grace, and a highly marked decorative presence, even incomplete, because the cherub figure dominates the composition and makes the piece a work with real character.
Certified shipment and careful packaging.
