Description from the seller
Eames Plastic Armchair RE RAR - Golden Maple Base Chair
Eames Plastic RE RAR is a rocking chair collection designed by Charles & Ray Eames and manufactured by Vitra. Steel wire frame with crossed supports, chrome-plated or powder-coated, rockers made of solid maple wood. The shell is made of recycled, pigmented polypropylene.
The Eames Plastic Side Chair was the first mass-produced plastic chair; after its debut in the Museum of Modern Art's "Low-Cost Furniture Design" competition in 1948, the Plastic Armchair and the Plastic Side Chair were released in the 1950s.
Since 2024, the shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs are made from recycled plastic; this material comes from the recycling of household waste, particularly packaging, which is collected under Germany's "Yellow Bag" collection program. Using this material instead of petroleum-based primary plastic results in lower greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reduces primary energy consumption. Due to the material composition, the colors of the seat shells show very few pigment specks. Because the new material cannot be produced in white, the white version will continue to be made from 100% recyclable polypropylene.
