Description from the seller
A particularly charming and authentic dated goose-head pewter kettle from 1886, made of yellow brass and clearly handmade with copper rivets. The year 1886 is beautifully struck into the carrying handle, making this kettle not only a utilitarian object but also a tangible historical document.
The kettle has the classic pear- or globe-shaped form, a shape that was widely used in the 19th century for water and tea kettles because this form distributed heat efficiently. The long, elegantly curved spout and the tall carrying handle enable the kettle to be used over an open fire or stove. The construction with visible rivets and hand-formed parts points to artisanal production from the late 19th century, a period when many household metal objects were still handmade.
The lid features a graceful knop with classical profiling, typical of kitchenware from the late Victorian era. The interior shows the original metal surface without modern coating, which confirms that the object has not been modernized. The warm patina and signs of use reinforce the historical appearance and underline the authenticity of this piece.
Such kettles were used in the 19th century in both rural kitchens and simple households. Today they are valued as decorative antiques, collectibles, or atmospheric kitchen objects that fit perfectly within a rustic, historical, or country setting.
A rare example of a dated household kettle from the 19th century, where the clear year adds an extra historical dimension. An attractive item for collectors of antique kitchenware, metalwork, or historical household objects.
