Description from the seller

Medieval Pilgrim Badge – Saint Mary (ca. 13th–15th century)
A rare and devotional pilgrim badge depicting Saint Mary, made in a copper alloy (likely tin/lead) and dating from the late Middle Ages. Such badges were worn by pilgrims as tangible proof of a completed pilgrimage and as protection or blessing from the venerated saint.
The veneration of Mary – mother of Christ – lies at the heart of the Catholic and Oriental Orthodox traditions. Numerous pilgrimage sites, including in France, Italy, and the Low Countries, were dedicated to her cult. After their journey, pilgrims often carried a badge that could be affixed to clothing or a hat, expressing both devotion and status.
This specimen features a stylized and somewhat abstract design, typical of early cast badges. The well-worn patina and wear are consistent with age and use. Despite some damage, the iconography remains recognizable and the piece possesses strong historical and collector value.
