Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Ovally round, this solid-silver (800) tripod of Ottoman origin features a festooned rim and a guilloché interior, three pierced feet with foliate decoration, a tughra maker’s mark and a circular 800 fineness mark, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, with a diameter of 17.5 cm, height of 5 cm and a weight of 226 g.
Description from the seller
Circular tripodal bowl in solid silver with a continuously festooned edge. The interior bottom is entirely adorned with a guilloché pattern (honeycomb or tight wicker motif) mechanically worked, encircled by concentric engraved channels and a row of regularly spaced small raised knobs.
The bowl rests on three openwork feet with a decoration of volutes, scrolls and leafy tendrils.
Two repoussé/engraved marks on the bottom of the bowl: a calligraphic tughra of the artisan, signature of the silversmith or workshop in Arabic/Ottoman characters, and a secondary control mark (also present on each foot) of round shape, presumably 800 fineness.
Tested positive with a touchstone.
These marks are characteristic of late Ottoman Empire silverware or post-Ottoman Turkey, dating from the late 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century.
General condition: good overall condition: rim of the neck deformed, age and use wear, old patina, darkened in places, a few stains and embedded traces, scratches and micro-scratches visible.
Photos are part of the description.
Maximum dimensions:
- Diameter: 17.5 cm
- Height: 5 cm
- Base width: 9.5 cm
Weight: 226 g
