Description from the seller
Large antique carved and gilded wooden mirror – Louis XV style – 19th century – original oxidized glass – 173 cm
Description
Elegant and scenographic large antique mirror, made of finely carved and gilded wood, attributable to the Louis XV Rococo taste, datable to the 19th century.
The work stands out for its rich artisanal workmanship, with a majestic upper pediment featuring vegetal motifs, acanthus leaves and sinuous volutes, entirely hand-carved with remarkable depth and a strong sense of volume. The decorations extend harmoniously along the entire frame, creating a dynamic and refined overall effect, typical of decorative aesthetics inspired by the eighteenth century.
The structure presents an elegant, slender form, with gently rounded corners and a shaped profile. The original gilding shows a splendid patina of time with light wear that confers authenticity and great charm.
The mirror retains the original antique glass, characterized by marked natural oxidation (foxing) that creates suggestive material effects and period reflections, highly appreciated in contemporary interior design.
On the back there are original constructive and mounting elements, including iron rings and a top hook, used for wall-mounting large mirrors. The rear panel has been replaced over time, as is commonly the case with objects of this type, testifying to long use.
This is a piece with a strong decorative impact, ideal for classic, contemporary or design environments, capable of enhancing any space with a striking presence.
