Description from the seller
Pair of Saint Oils silver reliquaries – 19th century – France
Set comprising two ampoules (lamps) for liturgical use in solid silver, intended to contain the holy oils used in Catholic sacraments (anointing of the sick, baptism, confirmation, ordination).
Each ampoule is engraved:
• O.S → Oleum Sanctum (oil of the catechumens or holy oil)
• S.C → Sanctum Chrisma (holy chrism)
The lids are topped with a raised Latin cross, attached, with a hammered décor in the recessed areas.
Elegant and sober finish, typical of 19th-century liturgical metalwork.
The two boxes are linked by a central hinge, an original system, allowing convenient liturgical transport.
Gilded interior by fire (vermeil) to protect the consecrated oils – gilding still clearly visible.
Presented in their original old case, black lacquered exterior, blue velvet lining.
Brass clasp, functional.
Very good overall condition for their age.
Normal signs of old liturgical use: micro-scratches, patina, small marks visible in photos.
Solid hinge, functional lids.
Original case with wear appropriate to age (scuffed corners, velvet marked).
The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement the presentation. They allow assessing its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
