About This Lens
The SMC Pentax 55mm F1.8 is one of the most celebrated standard lenses of the 1970s. Produced by Asahi Optical Co. (later known as Pentax), this K-mount version was introduced around 1975–1977, shortly after Pentax launched the K mount system. The "SMC" — Super Multi Coating — was groundbreaking at the time, dramatically reducing flare and ghosting while delivering rich, natural colors. Decades later, this lens remains highly sought after by photographers worldwide for its smooth rendering, pleasing bokeh, and compact form factor. It adapts seamlessly to modern mirrorless cameras via K-mount adapters.
