Giovanni Contardi's unique wall-mounted Rubik’s Cube Mosaic titled “IS > IF”, 2026, on an MDF panel using 49 original Rubik’s Cubes, measures 40×40 cm, 9.5 cm deep, weighs 6.5 kg, hand signed on the reverse, in excellent condition and sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
This unique wall-mounted work, composed entirely of original Rubik’s Cubes, is structured around the relationship between what is and what could be, articulated through the expression “IS > IF”.
“IS” appears as a fixed and stable condition, while “IF” introduces a conditional state, open to variation.
Within the otherwise rigid modular system, a single cube can be physically rotated. This minimal intervention allows a portion of the composition to shift, subtly altering the reading of the whole.
A consistent internal pattern runs across the surface through a repeated directional sequence, reinforcing a sense of underlying order.
Through this controlled variation, the work reflects on the difference between observing what is and considering what might be.
Giovanni Contardi is an Italian artist working with Rubik’s Cube mosaics as a contemporary medium.
His work transforms one of the most recognisable objects of the 20th century into a structured visual language based on repetition, variation, and precision.
His installations are permanently exhibited at the Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel (Disneyland Paris) and at the Rossini National Museum in Italy.
His work has been recognised internationally, including a mention by Ernő Rubik, inventor of the Rubik’s Cube, in Cubed: The Puzzle of Us All (2020).
Selected works and process are also shared on Instagram under JVENB.
