Description from the seller
Rare and splendid Pratone by Gufram from 1986
Designed in 1971 by Gruppo Strum — Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi and Riccardo Rosso, and produced by Gufram.
This is the ‘ Pratone ’
This object-space interprets the idea of a seat; it reflects the radical attitude of 1970s Italian design.
Its form, composed of long vertical elements in flexible polyurethane, evokes an outsized grassy plain, conceived to accommodate the body informally.
The covering, in green Guflac, protects the structure and preserves its iconic appearance.
Displayed in major museum collections, Pratone is not just a piece to live with, but also a fragment of design history.
It is an object that revolves around the concept of the utmost expression of creativity, even at the expense of functional needs.
Not by chance Pratone, in addition to being an unusual seat where the user reclines in a completely unconventional manner among the enormous soft blades of grass that compose it, is primarily a contemporary decorative art work, which thus encapsulates the whole idea of uselessness that the term "art" carries with it.
The seating is nonetheless functional in its purpose; it therefore allows a comfortable position even if unusual.
Pratone is made from a single material; in fact, it is a single piece of expanded polyurethane, cold-foamed and wrapped in a washable coating patented by Gufram itself, called "Guflac".
The material has a density that gives the stems excellent mechanical properties, especially regarding their elastic deformation; the stems readily return to their original shape after use.
In the case of this Pratone, we are talking about the 1986 run of multiples.
Produced in only 200 units worldwide, all numbered.
An icon of Italian design, it is a piece of world design history.
It has been kept in excellent condition for its era.
It is a collectible of guaranteed appreciation and is currently almost impossible to find on the market due to the highly limited edition.
Measurements: 140 x 140 x H 95 cm
Shipping costs already include packaging and a custom-made wooden crate for the chair, given its substantial footprint.
P.S. I do not ship to the United States due to logistics and bureaucracy.
