Hand-hammered silver pen cup – Gottlieb Kurz, Schwäbisch Gmünd – solid 830 silver – ca. 1915–1930

Elegant small hand-hammered silver pen cup (Schreibzeug-Becher) made by Gottlieb Kurz, one of the notable silversmiths of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany’s leading silverworking centre in the early 20th century.

The piece features flowing vertical wave-shaped hammerwork and a sculpted square base, characteristic of the late Jugendstil and early Art Deco style.
The needle-punch maker’s mark is typical for Kurz’s workshop and for thin, hand-shaped silver of the period.
