About Makkum pottery
Makkum pottery has been produced since the 16th century in the Frisian village of Makkum. It is worldwide known as the Dutch answer to Italian majolica and Delftware. The pieces are still largely handmade and painted according to centuries-old techniques.
Characteristic of Makkum are the rich, often colorful decorations and the artisanal character: no two pieces are exactly the same. Through this combination of tradition, craftsmanship and artistic freedom, Makkum objects are loved by collectors and enthusiasts of authentic Dutch ceramics.
