PEN EE | half frame camera, physical condition good and tested and working.
Description from the seller
This camera is a famous Olympus Pen EE-S, a masterpiece of Japanese design introduced in 1962. Belonging to the legendary 'Pen' family conceived by Yoshihisa Maitani, this camera revolutionized the market by being a 'half-frame' camera: it could shoot 72 frames on a standard 36-exposure roll, making photography cheaper and more fun. The native vertical framing format has become a beloved hallmark among creatives worldwide.
Technically, the Pen EE-S stands out for its fully automatic exposure system based on a selenium cell (the honeycomb-patterned ring around the lens) that does not require batteries to operate. This specific model is the higher-end version compared to the EE standard, as it features an adjustable zone-focus system and an excellent Zuiko 30mm f/2.8 lens, composed of 4 elements in 3 groups, capable of offering surprisingly sharp results despite the small negative size. The camera automatically handles shutter speeds between 1/40 and 1/200 second; if the light is insufficient, a red signal (the famous 'banner') appears in the viewfinder to prevent the shot.
Esthetically, the camera presents the classic textured gray-brown coating and a sturdy satin metal body that is pocket-sized. It is a fundamental piece for any collection dedicated to 1960s industrial design or for Lomography enthusiasts and daily analog shooting. The item is sold as a collectible in the condition visible in the photos; it is recommended to verify the selenium cell responsiveness and the red banner for full photographic operability.
