Description from the seller
Citroën AK 400 1971
- Complete restored including new, galvanized chassis
- Very original body
- Luxury version with parking and hazard lights
- Ami engine with about 29 hp
EXTERIOR
Exceptionally beautiful Citroën AK 400: this example is completely and extensively restored, including a new chassis and a new interior. The AK 400 (payload 400 kg) concerns the desirable van version of the iconic 2CV, also known as the 'Duck'. This example was built in 1971 in the Citroën factory in Vigo, Spain. The car comes from a collector's collection and is in very nice and restored condition. The body is still very original and has been painted in the lovely and chic color 'Albatros' beige/grey. The chrome work is largely original and renewed where necessary. Also the wheels and rubber are in good condition. We have rarely seen a nicer AK!
INTERIOR
The wonderfully simple interior has also been restored and is in good condition. The seats are fitted with nice brown upholstery. The interior is further equipped with heating and a switch for the windshield wiper and the hazard lights. The side windows are hinged.
TECHNICAL
Since the original AK 400 from 1971 has a 22 hp engine, this example is equipped with a more powerful Ami engine with about 29 hp. The car drives, brakes and shifts well. The car is equipped with high-quality silicone-based brake fluid. The new chassis is galvanized and provides excellent corrosion protection due to thermal galvanizing. The full immersion process during galvanizing ensures that inaccessible areas are coated, making the chassis maintenance-free without the need for additional treatments such as tectyleren or paint. We have found no rust on this car.
GENERAL
The Citroën 2CV. Best known as the 'Duck' or 'Ugly Duckling'. This iconic French model was created in 1935 targeting French farmers. It had to be affordable and reliable. It also had to be comfortable and safe to transport goods on unpaved roads, such as potatoes, eggs and wine. One requirement was that eggs in a basket would not break when the car drove over a freshly plowed field, and this car accomplished that. Originally the plan was to present the 'Deux Chevaux' in 1939 at the Paris Auto Show, but due to the war this happened in 1948. Production ran unusually long: from 1949 to 1990. Despite great success and high production figures, a good rust-free example is nowadays increasingly scarce. The van version (Fourgonnette) is known as the delivery duck and was produced from 1951, with the AK 400 produced from 1970. The delivery duck was also used by the Dutch road service back then! Today they are mainly sought after for marketing or camper possibilities.

Request help with registration from a third-party service provider.Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
