Description from the seller
Acrylic on canvas — Leandro Figueredo
In this work, Leandro Figueredo articulates a precise emotional tension between restraint and overflow, using a visual language where ornamentation and figurative coexist in a delicate balance. The portrait — with polished technical execution and contemporary sensitivity — emerges from an organic mesh of forms that evoke both foliage and symbolic structures, suggesting an environment that is not merely decorative, but psychological.
The face, with a direct and penetrating gaze, acts as a compositional and emotional anchor. The choice of a white flower in the foreground is not incidental: it functions as a color counterpoint against the intensity of the dominant red, and as a symbol of purity, transformation, or even of latent freedom that has not yet been realized. This duality between the ethereal and the contained is reinforced in the palette, where vibrant reds — charged with vital energy, desire, and urgency — intertwine with blue-green tones that provide a visual breath, but also a sense of entanglement or confinement.
Figueredo demonstrates notable control of the acrylic medium, achieving smooth transitions in the skin that contrast with the graphic stylization of the surroundings. This coexistence of hyperrealism and ornamentation generates an ambiguous reading: is the figure emerging toward freedom or being absorbed by its own inner world?
"Longings for freedom" is not simply a portrait; it is an emotional statement condensed into an image. The work invites the viewer to confront that universal impulse to break — to transcend invisible limits — encapsulated in a gaze that does not evade, but confronts.
A piece of strong aesthetic and narrative presence, ideal for collectors seeking works with symbolic charge, technical mastery, and a distinctive visual identity within contemporary figurative art.
The work is carefully shipped protected in a transit tube to ensure its optimal conservation.

Artist Statement
My work focuses on fantastic figuration, using portraiture as a vehicle to explore the human psyche and its archetypal narratives. My primary interest lies in the tension between intimate experience and universal symbolism: the female figure becomes the crucible where concepts such as conflict, sacrifice, desire, and memory manifest.
My process is a visual thesis that fuses realistic observation of faces with graphic and organic stylization in the surroundings, inspired by Art Nouveau and the sinuous narrative of Pop Surrealism. I seek to give shape to what is unsaid but felt through the integration of symbolic and aesthetically striking organic elements, which act as direct metaphors of internal states and life processes.
My work dialogues with Surrealism and Magical Realism, seeking to demonstrate that the body is a map and the mind an ecosystem. Each painting is a consequence of consciousness, an effort to capture the constant duality (Youth/Time, Beauty/Death) that defines the human condition. Ultimately, my work is the visual chronicle of the search for where the soul rests, inviting reflection on our own essential complexity.
