Description from the seller
Pope (1985) - "Knight Shift" - McDonald’s & Batman - 50 x 70 cm - 1/20
Original creation by Pope, large format 50 x 70 cm, on 200 g Hahnemühle art paper.
Born from my childhood fascination with superheroes, this work pits them against a reality much filthier: the adult world, marginalization, and menial jobs. The vigilante has left Gotham’s rooftops for the back alley of a fast-food joint. Red apron, cigarette in hand, emptied gaze: the hero saved the city, but the city forgot him.
The image is deliberately brutal and ironic. The armor of myth meets the uniform of the disposable worker. The heroic symbol is crushed by the machine he thought he was fighting. No more glory, no more recognition: only a night shift, a cigarette break, and the cold smell of frying oil.
Fine Art print, 12 colors on 200 g Hahnemühle paper, for precise rendering, matte, glare-free, with deep blacks, sharp details, and faithful color reproduction.
Edition limited to 20 copies for 2026.
Integrated signature and numbering directly on the artwork.
Certificate of authenticity emailed after sale.
The work is produced to order by a professional printing lab, then carefully shipped rolled in appropriate packaging to preserve the print during transport.
Who is Pope?
Pope, cofounder of the AMA collective, develops a unique artistic universe driven by a practice of visual arts since childhood, a meticulous attention to detail, and a careful visual search. Through sculptures, paintings, and installations, he draws inspiration from photography, urban landscapes, and everyday scenes, with a sensitive and wondrous gaze, attentive to both the simplicity and the complexity of the world around him.
Pope mainly draws inspiration from the world around him but also from the currents of renowned artists such as Banksy, Keith Haring, Koons, Orlinski, Takashi, Fred Allart, Shepard Fairey, Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Hamilton, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alec Monopoly, KAWS, Pantone, Mr. Brainwash, Blek le Rat, to name but a few.
Whether it’s for a gift, a memory, or your personal collection of contemporary art, you will easily find your favorite piece thanks to the diversity of our works. Indeed, Pope pursues his passion for urban art through street art (streetart) and pop art (popart) (limited edition or not), covering a wide range of themes such as cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum), the dollar, money, gold, wealth, the sex industry, the harms of drugs, luxury and haute couture brands, the world of comics and video games, the pharmaceutical industry and medicines, recycling and upcycling, products of the agri-food and fashion industries (sport, sneakers, ...).
Brands guide our choices and often our lives without us realizing it. Aware of this impact, Pope likes to mischievously twist labels such as Louis Vuitton (LV), Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Prada, Gucci, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Supreme, Obey, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG, Mercedes, Nike (Air Jordan), Adidas (Stan Smith), Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Marvel and Avengers (Batman, Joker, Superman...), Disney (Mickey, Scrooge McDuck...), Nintendo, Sega, Tintin, Lego, Pokémon, Vans and many others.
Dear bidders, our collective makes every effort to ensure that all information necessary to appreciate the lot being sold is clearly detailed in the listing: dimensions, weight, description, and photos... After the sale, no unwarranted claims will be accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
