Scanno by Gianni Berengo Gardin, signed on the title page, first edition, Massimo Baldini Editore, hardcover, Italian language, 130 pages, published in 1987.
Description from the seller
An exceptionally signed copy by Gianni Berengo Gardin (born 1930) on the title page, unique and unattainable in a signed copy. 128 pages and 102 black-and-white photographs, some double-page. Brief presentation texts about Scanno in Italian and a brief interview with Mario Giacomelli and Gianni Berengo Gardin at the end of the book. Gray cloth publisher's binding and illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition, almost like new!
Scanno is an austere and isolated village in the lower mountains of the Abruzzi, which was made famous in the photographic world by a few photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson dating from 1953, then by Mario Giacomelli taken in 1957. Gianni Berengo Gardin photographed this village shortly before 1970 as part of the volume on the Abruzzes commissioned from him by the Touring Club of Italy, and he returned there in the 1980s to stay longer, which made this exceptional book possible. These photographs present to us in a sequence of overall views the surrounding landscapes, the architecture of houses and palaces, the perspective of the streets with their stairs, as well as the daily life of the inhabitants and, of course, they show us these women with their particularly distinctive traditional headdress. The subtitle of the book is, moreover, as follows: “Un paese che non cambia” — a country that does not change.
In excellent condition, almost like new! A book from my personal collection kept as is with the utmost care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracking. For multiple purchases, there is the possibility of grouped shipping with a refund of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
