Description from the seller
Beautiful, richly adorned, very large XXL shell of Charonia Tritonis - colloquial name Triton's trumpet or giant triton, this is a species of a very large sea snail, a mollusk of the marine snail family Charoniidae, tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on a coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly spiraled in the shape of an elongated tower. Finished sharply at the apex, it gradually widens toward the aperture. Strongly ribbed, with distinct spiral ribs and nodules. The shell color is most often yellowish, creamy, or brown with irregular, darker spots and bands. The opening (shell entrance) is large, wide, oval. The interior is smooth, often orange, pink, or reddish-brown, contrasting with the outer side of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate dentition. Distinguishing features - due to its large size and characteristic shape, it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell-trumpet). It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 110×160×310 mm. I highly recommend it to collectors and interior decorators.
