Model History:
The Seiko Astron GPS Solar series represents one of the most important technological breakthroughs in modern watchmaking. Introduced in 2012, the Astron was the world’s first GPS-controlled solar wristwatch, capable of connecting to satellites to automatically adjust to the wearer’s exact timezone anywhere on Earth.
The 7X52 calibre, as seen in this example, belongs to the first generation of Astron movements, combining advanced GPS synchronization with solar charging, eliminating the need for battery replacement. These early Astron models are particularly significant, marking Seiko’s return to pioneering innovation following its original 1969 quartz revolution. With its bold case construction, high-tech materials such as titanium and ceramic, and highly legible multi-layered dial, the Astron was designed as a premium travel watch, blending functionality with a distinctly modern aesthetic.
