Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Antique steel deed box by John Burton, produced in the United Kingdom circa 1850–1900, 43 cm wide, 13 cm high, 35 cm deep, in fairly good used condition with some minor possible flaws.
Description from the seller
Stunning Victorian document chest made of black-painted tin, crafted in London by John Burton (Falcon Factory, Lower Whitecross Street, London E.C.), equipped with a "Chubb’s Patent" lock numbered and addressed 128 Queen Victoria Street, London.
It is an authentic "deed box" / office chest from the late 19th century, used to store titles, important papers, or money.
The chest features an elegant rectangular shape, with a retractable brass carrying handle on the lid and a front button (the button is not original; it was added to facilitate opening).
Inside, you’ll find the brass plate of the Chubb lock as well as the label stamped with the name John Burton, two reputed makers in Victorian England.
The patina of the black paint and the signs of wear give it a very strong decorative character, perfect for industrial décor, a cabinet of curiosities, or a shop display.
There is no key and I do not know if the lock works.
