Description from the seller
Dutch Delft Blue and White Flower Brick (Frog Vase)
Netherlands, circa early 20th century (c. 1920s)
A charming and finely executed Delft blue and white flower brick (frog vase), hand-painted in the traditional Chinese Ming dynasty manner. The rectangular body is decorated with lively scenes of deer amidst stylised floral motifs, rendered in characteristic cobalt blue on a white ground.
Designed with multiple apertures for arranging individual stems, this type of vessel served both a practical and decorative function, allowing for structured floral displays while showcasing the artistry of Delftware production. The larger size enhances its visual presence, making it equally suitable as a display piece within a collection.
The base bears a maker’s mark, and the piece retains a label from the Altfield Gallery, a well-known interior design firm recognised for its curated blend of antiques and contemporary art.
