Description from the seller
Splendid porcelain lighter produced by Rosenthal to a design by H. T. Baumann.
This very elegant modernist Op Art–style design was produced by Rosenthal in Germany around the seventies. The bold, crisp design was created by HT Baumann, who conceived for the vase a black background on which the white decoration stands out.
This pattern is one of the many models of German porcelain from that period, characterized by very bold and striking Op Art motifs.
Baumann joined Philipp Rosenthal in 1954 and worked at the Rosenthal factory and other German porcelain factories until the 1970s as a freelance designer. In 1969 he was appointed to the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India, and in 1985 he became a professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
His award-winning designs had a strong influence on the German design scene. His work is characterized by clean, timeless forms with high functionality.
Rare object, which tells in a lighter all the developments of postmodern design. Signed at the base.
Probably functional, needs servicing.
