Description from the seller
Vintage cast iron nutcracker in the shape of a squirrel (approx. 1930–1960)
A distinctive and decorative nutcracker made in heavy cast iron, designed as a seated squirrel. This classic model operates with a lever mechanism where the tail functions as a handle and the jaw opens and closes to crack nuts.
This specimen is an older model, which can be recognized by several features. The piece is made of solid cast iron with a coarse, detailed texture in the fur, typical of older casting techniques. In addition, the nutcracker has a beautiful, naturally formed patina that has developed over the years through use and oxidation. Modern reproductions typically have a smoother finish and less pronounced detail.
Also the design – a functional tool combined with a decorative animal figure – was especially popular in the mid-20th century. The sturdy construction and the classic lever mechanism also point to an older, solidly manufactured utilitarian object.
Features:
* Material: solid cast iron
* Representation: squirrel
* Mechanism: tail as lever, jaw as clamp
* Period: approx. 1930–1960
* Style: vintage / rustic / country
* Condition: good vintage condition with normal signs of use and authentic patina
Details:
Both functionally and decoratively a characterful object. Very suitable for collectors of antique or vintage kitchen accessories, or as a cozy eyecatcher in a country-style interior.
