Two bottles of La Spinetta Barolo Vigneto Garretti 2017 — a powerful and concentrated single-vineyard Barolo from one of Piedmont's most celebrated and internationally recognized estates.
Founded by the Rivetti family in Castagnole Lanze in 1977, La Spinetta has become synonymous with a modern, expressive interpretation of Piedmont's great grape varieties. The Vigneto Garretti is located in Grinzane Cavour — the northeasternmost commune of the Barolo appellation — on soils that produce wines of notable depth, structure and aromatic complexity. Production limited to approximately 10,000 bottles per vintage.
The 2017, from a warm and generous vintage, delivers depth, dark fruit and concentration with a powerful momentum felt throughout the wine. Ripe plum, licorice, tobacco, cedar and forest floor on the nose; round and gripping on the palate with notes of black cherry, cinnamon spice and firm, well-structured tannins. Described as "gracious and nicely lifted right out of the gate — savory with licorice, tobacco, plum pit and cedar, round on the palate with full structure that is gripping though balanced." Best from 2024–2036.
