Description from the seller
engraved crystal vase, 19th century
Vases attributed to the house "L'Escalier de Cristal" in Paris, unsigned
quadrangular baluster form engraved with birds and cherry trees
set at the base in a gilded bronze mount of japonizing style.
L'Escalier de Cristal was an old Parisian firm founded by Marie Desarnaud in 1804.
Famed during the Restoration, it was the first merchant of its era to offer clocks, candelabra, and ornamental vases that combine cut crystal with gilded bronze.
L'Escalier de Cristal at the 1867 Universal Exposition revived the taste for Sino-Japanese art.
Many pieces of furniture and decorative objects were then made in this style but adapted to European taste.
These vases would be part of those Japonisant productions from the mid-19th century.
Very small chips at the base (invisible with the mount) see photos.
