'Blüthner is a leading German piano and grand piano manufacturer. The factory is located in the German city of Leipzig in Saxony, where it was founded in 1853. The Pianofortefabrik Blüthner is one of the oldest and most renowned piano makers in the world... At world exhibitions Blüthner won prizes. The growing demand for instruments spurred further expansion.... Composers such as Claude Debussy, Max Reger, Richard Wagner, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Carl Orff, Dmitri Shostakovich and Andrew Lloyd Webber owned a Blüthner grand. Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt spoke highly of the brand's pianos. Also famous soloists among others Claudio Arrau, Ferruccio Busoni, Arthur Rubinstein, Wilhelm Kempff and Oleg Maisenberg are or were among the well-known customers. Paul McCartney also knew the lyrical qualities of Blüthner instruments.
